World Chocolate Day is celebrated annually on 7th July. This is a day to indulge in your favorite chocolate products. This World Chocolate Day, we are asking you to think about where chocolate comes from, the natural resources needed for its production, and how you can enjoy its deliciousness in a more sustainable way.
Cocoa trees are grown in tropical climates, so the cultivation of this crop often results in deforestation. However, this need not be the case. Agroforestry, the positive interaction of agriculture with trees, can be used to protect and restore our natural landscapes and ecosystems whilst still being able to grow crops for food production.
Our toolkit available for download contains content that showcases just how much natural resource goes into making one bar of chocolate. We also celebrate forward-thinking farmers, who are finding more sustainable ways to grow crops like cacao beans, so we can continue to enjoy the foods we love.
